Ice bath - fabric dying

Yesterday i did some development work for my final major project i tried experimenting with ice baths, i used ice cubes, discharge acid dyes and fixers, the technique created a crystal effect! I would like to thank Danielle Hardy for teaching me how to do this! After emptying the ice baths the ice cubes were a gorgeous colour and almost looked like little crystals themselves! Heres a sneek peek!

Printed length workshop

Yesterday I attended a printed length workshop which was taught by textiles technician Vicky Graham. I decided that this workshop would benefit towards my final major project because i think that long printed scarfs could be an option for final pieces. For the workshop we worked as a team with an old koda trace which Vicky had, here is a preview of what we did!

(This is the print that was left on the table unfortunately I don't have a photo of the finished fabric yet)

My final major project

My final major project is well under way now heres a sneek peek at my work bay and overall project theme which is called precious

Alison Willoughby

Artist Alison Willoughby kindly came in to college to do a talk about her Career as a Textiles designer/ Fine Artist. The talk was very inspiring and inspirational. It is amazing how she started up her own business and how she found her style whilst doing her masters at university. The style she had adopted is still with her today, she has a great natural passion for fabrics and the layering of them. I found the talk very enjoyable! if you have time please check out Alison's work!

Event week

Event week at CCAD was really enjoyable! I visited many workshops and lectures and found them all interesting. It was lovely to learn new things and take a step back from the studio for a week! Photography tutor Paul Sudlow did a workshop on how to take professional photographs using different lighting, which I found really beneficial! as a Textiles student it is something we don't usually get taught but it was really inspiring and I cant wait to try out what i have learnt on my own work! I also went to a pinhole Photography workshop taken by Photography technician Tim Adams which was also very interesting and i learnt so much! who knew you can take photos without a camera! if your interested in photography check out the CCAD degree course http://ccad.ac.uk/ba-hons-photography/
